Ben Carson Reading Room Event

I was happy to be at the Dr. Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine ribbon cutting ceremony this past Wednesday, as students at BCHS celebrated their new Reading Room.

This Ben Carson Reading Room is the 101st such room across the nation thanks to the Carson Scholars Fund. The importance of this is illustrated by the fact that in 2013 students logged over 15 million minutes of independent reading in Ben Carson Reading Rooms, a truly impressive number.

Special thanks to IKEA for the sponsoring the room and congratulations BCHS students!

As well as myself, attendees at the ribbon cutting ceremony included:
• Karen Ridgeway, Superintendent of Academics, Detroit Public Schools
• Amy Warner, Carson Scholars Fund, Executive Director
• Amanda Preston, Marketing Manager, IKEA Canton
