Healthcare isn’t easy.

Hospital administration is not an easy task, especially when it comes to not knowing what the full implementation of the healthcare EadiePetersreform bill will mean to an urban institution like Sinai-Grace. It is my love for and indebtedness to this community that wakes me up and gets me here so early each day. Every once in a while someone shows up at Sinai-Grace and reminds that that they too share the desire to provide high quality and safe care to southeast Michigan.

Recently, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives found time to visit this community pillar. He serves the 14th District which includes Detroit, Grosse Pointe, Hamtramck, Southfield and Pontiac. Having been born in Pontiac, he gave me the feeling that he understood what needed to be done for the citizens of this community. He recently announced his intention to run in the 2014 election for the United States Senate seat being vacated by retiring Senator Carl Levin.

Thanks for stopping by Sinai-Grace, Congressman Gary Peters.

Celebrating one of our own

Our physicians do heroic work each and every day at DMC Sinai-Grace Hospital but one of them went above and beyond recently while on his morning commute to work.

Senthil

On Friday, Aug. 2, Dr. Prashanth Senthil, an internal medicine resident at Sinai-Grace, came upon a multiple car accident on Jefferson Ave. near the Renaissance Center downtown. Dr. Senthil’s human instincts kicked in and he moved his car to block
traffic, pulled victims out of the crashed cars and tended to their injuries before EMS arrived some 40 minutes later.
Dr. Senthil’s incredible story was quickly shared throughout the Detroit Medical Center and eventually got the attention of local media and the surrounding community. It’s a wonderful thing when we have the chance to celebrate one of our own like this.
Our Facebook posts on the story have exploded in the days since, garnering a total of 203 likes and 5,632 views.

Friends, during last year’s NOVEMBER SAY NO TO SODA POP campaign, many criticized me for promoting that pop is a very unhealthy product. The scrutiny got even greater after I suggested that diet pop was worst than regular pop. Check out the link below and let me know your thoughts. Also, we will soon be planning another November Health Campaign, please let me know your suggestions.
